I recently filed for bk, got my discharge paperwork in January.
I want to re-establish my credit, and my attorney said a car loan would be the thing to do, since you can get a car loan fairly easy after bk. What i want to know is who are the companies that will work with you if you’ve had a bk-the ones that will give you a loan and not try and not trick u? Any responses are greatly apprectiated.
You CAN get a decent car loan, even with bad credit. I’ve done it, but you’ll have to look around. That’s one of the BIG mistakes people make…just taking the first offer that’s given to them when they go to the dealer. Be smarter than that.
WARNING: DON’T GO TO BUY A CAR WITHOUT HAVING THE LOAN FIRST. The auto dealers will eat you alive and give you a crappy rate. Shop around with lenders who specialize in bad credit car loans. It’s a better option, you don’t have to take what they’re offering if you don’t want it, and it’s better than dealing with the car dealer’s people.

My mom just bought a new car a couple weeks ago. I bought a new car a couple days ago and I needed her to co-sign for me. Will she be able to have two loans? Someone with a good credit rating can finance as many cars as he, or she, wants. As long as her credit rating stays strong, and her debt to income ratio is still balanced the way lenders like.
But, as you say, if your mother has already purchased her car, the question has already been somewhat answered. If you are worried about the "next" car loan she may need; only if you falter on your loan will she be negatively affected when that time comes.
Your Mother put herself on the line for you. Thank her, and don’t let her down. If you make all of your payments on time, you, and your Mom, will be better off when the loans are paid in full.

I thought medical couldn’t hurt loans on autos. Is there a law that states you cannot be denied a auto loan because of medical? The loan is from the Honda dealer’s private lender.
Auto finance is what I do for a living and medical collections are no different then any other type of collections as far as lenders are concerned.
What ever it is, it’s a bill that you did not pay and was turned over to a collection company and is now part of the public record section of your credit report.
While some lenders do not put as much emphasis on medical as others, there is no guideline and certainly no law that says that you can not be denied because of medical collections.
My wife and I were married in August 2007. First off, according to my WaMu online statement page I have a 678 credit score based upon Bancard Industry FICO. My credit history isn’t that great. I had a car repo’d in 1998. That judgment has since fallen off my credit report. I finished school in 2001 and started my job in 2002. I have been with my company for 5 years 3 mos. and make about $42K a year. I was delinquent on bill paying in the past but have not been late or missed a payment since 2002. My wife and I have 4 credit cards and 2 car loans. We also have IRAs 401(k)s and some funds in a CD. My wife has been employed with her company since 2004. She makes about $45k. We aren’t sure what her credit score is but we know that when she bought her car in 2005, it was a 664. We both have student loans. According to the "How much can we afford calculators", we should be able to get about $200k for a house. Based upon our credit, what do you think is more realistic in todays market? Thanks
